Ok here's the deal. My 92 x stays at 3/4 warm but that's it. I flushed the radiator which was a yellowish color. Still stays at 3/4 even with the 108 degree weather in Phoenix & the a/c blasting it stays at 3/4. It does have an aftermarket tranny cooler hooked up. Should I replace the t/stat or have the raiator roded. Will any of this make a difference or is normal for x's? Any help with would be great.

Hello!

I live in Vegas, and am familiar with the hot weather as well. Today it was 106 degrees!

As for your temp gauge, not to worry, mine rides in about the same spot. My radiator has been removed and rebuilt, I have new hoses, thermostat, water pump and fan clutch. The block has been power flushed, and still the temp always seems to reside in the same spot (Just shy of 3/4)

At this point I am assuming it is NORMAL?

I wouldn't worry about it so long as you aren't boiling over, and that the needle never reaches the far right of the gauge!

Have you noticed any loss in power due to the temp and does your A/C still blow ice cold regardless of the temp?

Temp

No worries. I have a 91 X that does the same. I have a friend that is a ford mechanic and he says if its the right T-stat, then thats the way its supposed to be. Mine actualy cooled down a bit when I had a Hi Po muffler and tailpipe added.

Temp guage shows 3/4

Sir, I had the same thing happen on my 91 and it turned out to be a bad themostat. I put in a 180 and it runs super cool now. This is just one of many posibilities but if your radiator is clean and everything else checks out this could very well be the problem. The up side is it cost only $8 to replace one. Good luck!!!

Hey thanks guys, I think the t-stat is ok because the upper hose gets hot after it warms up. I took the radiator out to have it roded & they told me the the radiator was no good cause the tank was seperating & leaking. I replaced it with a tow package 3 core instead of the 2 core that was original. Unfortunatley that radiator had a leak, but it ran right in the middle till the resoiver ran dry. I got a new one I am gonna install tonight. I believe this will cure the problem. Oh & yes the a/c blew icecold constantly no matter what the temp. I will post tomorrow if there is any real temp changes thanks for the help.

My Explorer has done that since the day I bought it in 92. I ask Ford to check it out, but no luck. I had the system flushed and the thermostat replaced. No luck... just kept running warm. The thing I forgot about was the fan clutch. This year the temp. went up every time I was starting off from a stop and the A/C was running. I knew then that was the fan clutch. Good thing I replaced the clutch ( the fan had cracks in it and had to replace). Now I run the A/C in the summer heat and for the first time the temp gauge stays on the "N" in normal. Problem solved.

Yeah there was no change in the temp with the new radiator, but it was definetely shot I just caught it before it blew this summer. I noticed the fan looked chewed up on the ends so a new fan clutch is next along with a 190 t-stat. Hopefully that will make the difference since it is 116 degrees right now. Oh well guess I am stuck driving the wifes new Sable till I can fix this. Thanks guys.

I noticed that my gf Explorer ran 3/4 hot in the Central Valley of CA in 100+ temp. I emptied her radiator, used "Water Wetter", and went to a 25% coolant, 75% water mixture.

The last few days, it has not moved above the N and the O in the words Normal on the gauge. It has been @ 101+ degree here also.

Water Wetter is made by Red Line oil. Coolant also does not conduct heat as well as water...
