93 Ranger engine flutter

My friend is about to buy a 93 ranger with a 4.0l v6. When the engine starts the rpms bounce between 500 and 1000 when its trying to idle. Ive had numerous explorers and rangers and i had a 91 do the same thing and it was a dirty IAC. Just would like someone elses opinions as to what it is before he buys the truck. Its had a tuneup and all...might be that the computer hasent relearned the idle since the tuneup but who knows any suggestions?

Sounds like it could be the IAC. The computer should re-learn itself after about 5-10 miles. Maybe pull the codes to see what they reveal. There can be a code set even if the CEL is out.
