I have a 1994 ford ranger ex cab. I have the manule locks on it. Does any one have a link to a "changing axles for dummys" post. I am most concered with how to get them out of the Diff. do they slide out? I have hearn that I have to pull the diff cover.. that looks like a Pain... real bad. SO HELP ME if you can.

After you take the hubs, spindle nuts, rotors, etc. off, there is 5 bolts on a flange thing that come off. The easiest way to pull it off is remove the bolts, then put your spindle nut back on to have something to pull on. Then, the drivers side axle shaft will slide out. The passenger side has a c-clip that you must split the cover and remove first. You can search for the c-clip eliminator mod before you put it all back together and it'll make it much easier next time.

Thanks for the fast repile. Ya that c-clip is going to be a pain. I have 240,000 miles on this truck, and spliting the front cover sound tough. do I have to drop the front end?

There's a couple ways to do it. I've only had mine apart once, and I tried taking as little as possible, kept removing stuff until I got pissed off at it and ended up having everthing except the right side beam off. I think it can be done by pulling the drivers side shaft, unbolting the cover, removing the front drive shaft, then sliding the center section out, but i'm not sure.

I unbolted the entire left side and slid the pumpkin with the left beam attached off of the right axle.

My truck has 230,000 on it and I was very surprised that there was basically no wear in it. All the bearings were like new and no play at all.
