hello,
quiet some time ago I posted on here with some probs with my 94' limited explorer, and the probs still haven't gone away, I took it even to the Ford Dealership and they nothing is wrong with it, thats a bunch of hodge podge, anyway heres my prob, For one, when ever I start my x sometimes the volt gage goes down to the low side the needle touches the N in normal especially at night, and my dash lights go dim when I put it in gear but soon as I accelerate the volt gage goes back up to the L on normal and my dash lights bright like nothing happened. I've had my alternator tested and the regulator inside it tested, and there both charging great, I don't have a clue what could be wrong but its driving me nuts!!! also heres my second prob when I drive my x and get it to operating temp then park it for about 10 mins then go to start it back up and it runs like crap, it hesitates big time and when it does this my volt gage is on the low side as well it almost acts like its not getting enough fuel. but then soon as I give it some gas and rev it a couple times then its runs fine. I don't have a clue whats wrong with it maybe some one could help me find out this great mystery, I have replaced the plugs and plug wires also the mass air flow sensor, it has a new battery and recently a new transmission with new electronics. the motor only has 115,000 miles on it its a 4.0L V6, just hope some one has some answers becuase I don't thanks,

First, welcome back!

Second, does your battery gauge also jump when you hit the window up button and the window is already up? If it does, my X does the exact same thing! I havent had a problem with it and i dont really worry about it. So I dont think you should. on a typical night i have my radio going (streao with an Amp, typically draws much more juice then the stock system) headlights (110 watts) and fog lights (110) watts and i havent had an issue, when i stop it goes down to about half way but it is still within normal range so it doesnt concern me. Any lower i would then start to worry!

So long as it goes up when your driving, thats all the counts... its getting charged.

hey chucky,
yeah my volt gauge does flicker when I hit the window switch with the windows are up, I'm just worried about it cuase It might of cuased my last transmission to go out cuase the electronics have to have a certain voltage for it go shift properly. also I do have the jbl factory audio system with a amp and have factory fog lights, you wouldn't know whats cuasing it to run so crappy though do you?

Well my 93 was doing the same thing with the lights. I had a new battery and new alternator put in but the problem was still there. Well i aske sveral people and friends as to what the problem was and they had no idea. Then my dad and I thought maybe it was with the switch. So i took the switch out and to my surprise the plug that conects to the switch was melted and had burn marks all over it. One of the wires was loose and had been barely touching another wire causing a short. I replaced the plug and all of my flickering lights have gone away. You may want to check the plug that goes to your headlight switch. Hope this helps some. Also you may want to check your fuel pump and fuel filter about your other problem.

Its not uncommon for your transmission to go out, but if thats why they fail, thats an interesting find! Sorry I dont know the answer to your first question.

hey joe,
thanks for the info but I do have some questions the plug your talking about, is it on the back side of the switch you pull on to turn your head lights on? cuase I'm kinda confused what you mean by a plug? you got me thinking spark plugs lol... thanks,

I was thinking about your first problem... Did try running a few tanks of premium Gas along with some fuel injector cleaner? And when did you last change the fuel filter... and how are your O2 sensors?

:exp:
hey chucky,
well I ran one tank of premium gas in it once, it still did its hesitation thing, and I usually put in fuel injector cleaner every oil change, I replaced the fuel filter the last part of august, I also have tried sea foam in the gas and there was no change either I'm just really puzzled on this!

Yeah it is the plug that plugs into your headlight switch. It plugs into the back of it. You have to take part of the dash apart to get to it. Sorry for making it sound confusing.

hey joe,
thanks for the info now I understand, :) must of had a brain fart, anyway have another question, does the front of the dash just pull off to get to that switch? I don't want to break the molding piece. god I hope the hole dash doesn't have to come out to get to that plug, :exp:

I think there are a few screws to get out first the it just pulls off. On mine I have to turn the hazards and tilt the steering wheel down to get it off. Also besure to diconect all plugs before just pulling it all the way off.
