94 ranger
hello guys I'm new here, I'm actually new to American trucks. My first truck was a Nissan pickup , second was a Nissan pathfinder. Finally i got my self a ford ranger. I got this thing really cheap , the owner was driving it and the engine blew up, i offered him 150 for the truck and said id take it on the spot. He was stranded on the highway and didn't have a way to tow it. Thanks to Canadian tire road side assistance i got this truck down to a friends shop. The truck has 380km on it but its in decent shape.

I bought the engine from the junk yard, its from an Aerostar ... it has 160 km on it ... heard it running, the van was junked because of the transmission. I will get the engine on Monday. I'm hoping the swap is going to be easy, I'm no expert but i have done a a bunch of swaps before. I'm working at a shop so all tools are there , plus a hoist.

Any advice can you guys give me about this swap, difference between the Aerostar and the ranger 4.0L from what i can tell the intake manifold and the exhaust manifold might be different, any tips would be great.

Thanks guys
here is some pictures.

Same year Aerostar as the Ranger? Both manual or auto transmissions?

93 areostar , both are auto

thanks

It sounds like it should be a straight forward swap if you keep the Ranger's intake and exhaust manifolds and the related sensors and harness. Ping BrooklynBay here on the board, he's a wiz with Aerostars.

dam see this is what i was worried about , swapping the intake manifold , the issue is that for some reason they are so expensive almost 100 $ for the manifold gasket , i have no idea why its that high. The exhaust manifolds are like 8$ .

thanks for the tip

Rock Auto has the intake manifold gasket set listed for $14.48

o i just checked its showing 30 $ plus 40 shipping which is not bad,

Shipping sounds a bit high there, I checked Autozone, the upper/lower set is $43 while the complete upper/lower/valve cover gasket set is $100

oo I'm not sure, I'm hoping to get this locally, i wanna finish this swap in one day, no time to wait for shipping.

well today didn't work out like i wanted to, the junk yard didn't end up delivering the engine , they said the driver is sick ...will deliver tomorrow but lucky when i took the top intake manifold off, there was a brand new gasket, there goes my gasket problem. the engine is ready to be pulled out.

okay so this is how it turned out the differences between Aerostart 4.0l and ranger are :

the intake manifold has different sensors on it, had to swap that, the engine mounts are different, the exhaust manifold is different, the harness is totally different the plugs to the computer and the fuse box are not the same.

I got the engine in and everything is good , but the engine wont fire,

there is no spark , there is no fuel( fuel pump is not turning on)

already checked : wiring, fuses , coil plug has power , firing order is good

the crank position sensor has no power when the engine is turning over

there seems to have been an alarm on the truck from before, i unplugged that black box for the alarm, but still no luck.

any suggestion guys ? do you think it could be the old alarm ?
