The only time I can get my CD changer to work is when I first start up after my Explorer has been sitting for awhile and sometimes not even then. I push the CD button on the radio and the CD magazine number and track number but will soon after turn off and get get the error message NO CD. Afterwards I push the CD button agian and it only says NO CD. If I eject the magazine and reinserted enough times it will finally play. By the way after the CD I am listening gets done playing it will skip over all the other Cd's and finally kick off. I have tried cleaning it multiple times with the same results.

stock cd changer? well its not as bad as mine was... but just to let you know when the display reads "BAD CD" your changer is screwed(changing it out wont even fix it). but it sounds like your changer is dying... it might be time for an upgrade or maybe replacing it might work...

it may jest need a good cleaning. I have a bad habbit of leaving the CD door open... dust gets inside and screws around with things. Take it out, clean all the surfaces you can reach with a non-wire pipe cleaner and q-tips with electrical cleening solvent. Check for damaged parts and loose connections and reinstall the changer.

mine is reading "bad cd" all of a sudden. What is the culprit? and why can't it be fixed?

I think what most of you guys are describing is not a CD Changer problem, but a CD Magazine problem. The early magazine version was not as robust as the later one. On the earlier version, if somebody ever tried to stick two discs into one slot, the magazine is shot. Take all of the discs out of your magazine, and look to see if all the slot liners are parallel - if any of them look crooked, that's your problem. Trying to straighten them with your fingers MAY help, but, your best bet is to replace the magazine with the later design piece.

The early magazine will have a part number prefix of F57F, the later one, which looks identical, will have a prefix of F77F.

regards,

Jeff
