I have a 95 Explorer XLT, 6.0, 4WD

At least once or twice a month for the past few months, I will drive to a store, park the car and run in and do my shopping.

When I return, the car will start, then stall immediately. The only way I can keep it running is if I keep my foot on the accelerator.

A few months ago I had my fuel pump an fuel filter replaced.

I have been told several things by many people.

I have been told the car is vapor locking
(I dont see how, it isn't hot out when this happens)

Today at the store, it happened again and a guy told it may be my air bypass or my idle control.

I have read some posts in this forum about sensors, but I didnt understand them. Mostly everything was abbrevated.

Anyone have any other ideas? It would be greatly appreciated.

The IAC (idle control) sounds like the place to start. If you had the problem before the fuel pump replacement, take it back to them and make them fix it. The FP probably cost you about $500 for something you probably didn't need. If you think it's vapor lock, you can try replacing the gas cap. Also, have you pulled the codes? There may be a code stored even if the CEL is off.

marragtop, thank you for your reply.

This problem started awhile after the fuel pump was replaced. It doesn't happen often, but I think once a month or a couple times a month is getting to be too much. I don't think it could be vapor lock. I was told vapor lock normally happens when it's hot outside. I took the truck to Auto Zone, no codes came up.

I'm going to have someone check the idle control.

And I know all about crappy mechanics! I'm a single Mother, I took my car to a local mechanic to get an estimate for a tune up. He wanted to charge me $600.00. I asked him if he saw the word "stupid" written on my forehead. I was so mad I learned how to do it myself and it only cost me a few hours time and $75.00 in parts. Ha!
