First of all, welcome to the best site on the web, I can tell you that you will find a ton of useful information here. First off, what kind of engine do you have? You best upgrade for now would be to get a new air filter/system, K&N seems to be a pretty popular brand, but there are others. My best suggestion for you at this time is that you are 16, and I am sure you have a minimal cash flow coming in. At the risk of sounding preachy, I would have to say, save your money right now, for one big reason. Gas prices are going up, it is inevitable, and I am under the notion that they will not be getting any cheaper. Under oil production increases and prices subside, I would hold off on making any sort of modification, especially if you are refering to engine modifications because anything usually beyond a filter and drilling holes in the filter housing, you will have to use a higher octane gasoline, which translates into spending even more money on gas. You are young, trust me on this, don't get ahead of yourself by making a bunch of modifications that later you may not be able to afford. Bask in the idea that you are 16 and drive a nice Ford Explorer XLT, take the ladies around in it, put the windows down and play music real loud, and be happy with that right now. Cause you can have a vehicle with all the mods on it that you can possibly get, but if you can't afford to drive it anywhere, it kind of takes the fun out of things. I don't know your situation and I am not attack you, I understand that you want to do all these things to your truck, but I just wanted to give you another perspective. I hope I helped. I aggree with Tim. Go with the K&N Air filter. The drop in will be cheaper. Then start saving for the exhaust. Cool sound is good. Dead Link Removed

Well, finally another teenager on the site. I am 18 and have a '95 explorer 4x4 four door. I just thought I would write and tell you all I have done to mine. I will admit, it did take me a summer or two to save up the appropriate funds, but, the hard work was worth it in the end. Here is the list of extras I have added.

K&N air filter system
Manik step up bars
Manik Grill Guard
Manik tail light guards
Surco Safari Rack 50" x 60"
2 Hella Black Magic lights on the grill guard
4 Hella 500's on the safari rack
30x9.5/15 BFG All Terrain KO's
2 Rockford Fosgate Punch DVC 10" sub's

Soon to come:
2" lift
New Exaust system (probably Gibson)
Fender flares

I am very proud of my work and love the way it came out. Let me know how everything works out with yours.

Rob

I will be turning 16 soon..sorry if I'm under age a little..to get to the point I will "inherit" a 95 Explorer XLT 2WD. What modifications and accessories are available for this model and/or are useful. Thanks in advance, Mike

Hey guys you are not alone, I am only 18 , but I will agree with the older guys on this site. I have heavily modified my truck as much as I can ,( I have a nice truck)Have no gas money or money to do stuff with, until I get the next paycheck. I am currently installing a 98 ranger body lift kit and going to run 33's on 15x8 wheels. Take there advice though, save before you do.

17 year old here. All I have done since I purchased my 95 XLT 4 door 4X4 is K&N filter, Bosch Plus 4's, Synthetic oil, O2 sensors, cleaned MAF, and frequent washings and waxing. Right now I am really just concerned that the truck stay looking new, because I plan to keep this truck for maybe 8 years! Congrats on your truck and I's sure you'll love it! Just watch out on gas....
See ya Later
