95 XLT-4WD does not work

Got some snow yesterday, put it in 4WD and could not move. I was in Drive, gave it gas and nothing. The only way I could move was to take it out of 4WD, put it in reverse, go a few feet then put it back in drive.
Any advice/help would be appreciated. Thanks!

are you saying that it stayed in 2wd?

I can only drive it in 2WD. As soon as I put it in 4WD the whole car locks up, doesn't move. The only way I can get it to move is put it back in 2WD, go in reverse for a few feet then put it back in drive. This morning I put it in 4WD at a stand still, put the car in drive and it didn't move - I had to put it back into 2WD, reverse and then I was able to drive but only in 2WD.

are you talking about 4x4 auto or 4x4 low
