96 Explorer 2WD hard shift

I have a 96 2WD Ford Explorer. I get a hard shift on 1st and i get a hard down shift on 1st also. the tranny is not sluggish and donot seem to slip. But mt O/D light blinks.......any one had this problem ?. If so, What was the solution ?. Please help.........

Have you checked the fluid level and condition?

How often does the light blink, and when?

Have you been performing regular tranny maintenance?

Any other problems with driveability?
