Ok, so the other day driving home from my aunts the X drove fine, we get to a red light an stop, green an we start to across the intersection an all of a sudden the RPMs go up to 6K an the X isnt going anywhere. Seems like it went into Neutral. My mom ended up using the van an pushed the X to the house so it didnt need to be towed. SO now i am in the process of trying to figure out what happen. Here is what I have found out so far.

1996 XLT 4x4 V6 190,000 miles

1- No Drive, Reverse 2or 1 in 2wd or 4wd
2- trans fluid is clean an filled properly.
3- No odd noises from the trans
4- every once an a while the speedometer wouldnt work(driving at about 60 an it would go to 0 an then back to 60 start falling an then back to 60 again)

I have not a clue as to what happen an need some help. If the trans went you would atleast thing not all the gears are gone. My friend has a 82 stang and he didnt have drive an he just drove around the devolopment in R. I doint have any gears at all.

Thanks in advance.

Justin

No, I don't have any of them! I checked for codes with a scanner an it didn't have any!

Not all scanners are capable of reading every kind of trouble code. Some codes which are manufacturer specific, transmission codes, ABS codes or SRS codes have to be read with a scanner which is designed for them. The real cheap scanners only read basic codes.

maybe the problem is in the tranfer case. if you went into neutral on t-case for any reason maybe it failed to shift out due to a bad shift motor.
