HELP !!!!

System : 1996 Limited, JBL/LUX stock system.

Symptoms : NO SOUND !!! Head unit (FCU) has all normal displays, clock, AM/FM, CD work. CD player will change CD's and seek tracks. POWER ANTENNA does not work! Turn volume all the way up and can't hear ANYTHING.

I've checked TWO fuses in the dashboard fuse block and ONE fuse in the power distribution box in the engine compartment.

It would seem that I have NO power somewhere in this system but the question is, WHERE? and WHY?

The system gave NO warning. I just got in it and took off and there was no sound or antenna.

I checked my FORD factory CD ROM and even though I'm pretty good at diagnostics and diagrams, their troubleshooting charts make me insane!

UPDATE : I pulled EVERY fuse in the vehicle.... All are OK.

HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

The first day I got my truck, I took out the stereo and upgraded, soo I don't have much experience with this stock head unit thing. I would assume if you never touched it and all of a sudden it just doesn't work. No fuses blown? Your head unit is trash....I would assume. Someone else post an opinion please.

Thanks...

If the head unit is trashed it wouldn't break my heart because I see them on ebay fairly often probably due to monster upgrades. This unit has had the ubiquitous and common non functioning OFF switch. Push and push and push and unless you find the sweet spot you better turn the X off while in the car wash.

Could there be a fuse in the back of the head unit? My old Alpine head unit had one. Just an idea.

If the display is working but there is no sound it might be the factory amp. There are tons of threads on it, that may be your problem.

The first thing I thought of was the amp..... BUT the antenna does not work when the unit is powered up and down. That would seem to indicate that the head unit is not working. The circuit diagram shows some related wiring between the amp and the antenna but I doubt that the amp status would affect the antenna...

As far as ebay goes... these JBL/LUX head units seem to rarely appear on auctions. They were only used on Limiteds and Eddie Bauers. I'd just shove a Sony or JVC into the hole but this system when it works suits me fine. Never mind the nightmare of wiring around the factory amp. sub and cd player. It actually is, from an audiophile stand point, quite good. I don't subscribe to 200 decibels and 2000 watts being the standard of good sound. And.. I'm a musician.
