Bought this thing cheap for my son to get around in. It's a 97 4 door explorer 4x4 4.0L auto, xlt that had no mil light installed? and has failed inspection.

Pulled the cluster and replaced bulb. Cleared codes and light went out. Now everything is good and all Monitors are ready except the one catalytic monitor is reading "inc". Driving the vehicle to set the readiness for inspection, I noticed on the live data screen, that the vehicle speed data isn't showing. The speedometer works, just not the live data on the scantool? Is this normal on the 8/96 production generation? Could this have something to do with why the catalysis test is still incomplete?

There is also a problem with the control-trac auto 4 wheel drive, that blinks 6 time. The previous owner said it was locking in 4 wheel drive so a mechanic took the front drive shaft off. It is still removed but would like to see if I can get it working to do some surf fishing on the heavy sand beaches in the fall.

I did read the transfer case rebuild thread, and looks like it is pretty straight forward if you have the proper tools. I'm wondering if the hall sensors could be the problem in the TC causing the speed on the scantool live data monitor to not function.

does this have two separate speed sensors as in one for the speedometer and another for pulse gem/ecm?

Anyone have the wiring diagram on the 97 explorer speedometer sensor(s
Thanks in advance for any help
