My '97 4wd auto. stalls at times when the throttle is lifted or just lightsly pressed, like parking.

My test after cleaning the IAC (thanks for the great write-up) was to put it in drive, with the brakes on load the engine to about 2500rpm and then let off the gas. The revs would drop down to a point where it would just stumble then stall.

From what I have been able to read here, the next part to try and clean is the MAF sensor. Anything else specific I should be looking at? Plugs, fuel filter, etc.???

Thanks
Andrew

I had that problem. It would stall when I wasn't giving it gas. I had to drive home with one foot on the brake and one on the gas, really sucked. Then I took it to Ford and they raped me for like $400 to replace the IAC Valve and do a fuel induction system cleaning. They said it had carbon chunks clogging the IAC. They also replaced the fuel filter (another possible culprit). Mine had around 130K on it at the time.

Edit:Keep in mind that some people have still had problems after they cleaned their IAC. Sometimes you just have to replace it. Replace the fuel filter while you're at it if you have never done so. The Haynes manual says that despite Ford's recommendation that you never need to replace your fuel filter, it recommends changing every 30K miles (if I remember correctly).
