Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the transmission section. How many miles does it have? It could be a band which needs to be adjusted, out of alignment range sensor or a stretched linkage cable. Do you have a check engine light or a flashing overdrive light?

It has 156k, yes I get a flashing o/d light and the check engine light is on,I droped the tranny pan tonight and noticed metal shavings in the pan, it was also overfiled with fluid.
At low idle it sometimes creaps into forward or reverse and drops out again. The fluid smeals somewhat burned. No gunk in pan just fine metal, no magnet in pan. At tmes the flashing o/d light goes off then back on and it sometimes idles smooth, then vaselates at idle and the dome light dimes and brightens when that occures. Like whatever controls this stuff is Whacky. I only have old time basic knowledge off auto trannys. UGH!
