Hey guys- Quick question about my '97 5.0 AWD. I tired searching, could only find one other semi-similar post and there were no replies. Hoping you can help:

I am experiencing a bit of a "whizzing" noise when I let off my gas pedal around highway speeds. Once I accelerate again, the noise gose away. Basically, as long as I am accelerating or maintaining a constant speed, there's no noise.

This only seems to happen above 40 MPH- I do not notice it when city driving.

I know at one point the rear diff seal (the diff cover's gasket) was replaced, due to a slow leak, but this was at least 30K ago. Vehicle has 144K on it.

Thanks for any info!

bump. C'mon guys, someone has to have a suggestion :) I know it's either a gear/pinion, bearing, etc. No one on here knows??

Disconnect the rear driveshaft from the pinion flange and check the pinion flange for any up/down free-play
