97 Mountaineer- Disconnected battery to charge, reconnected, will not turn over

I have keyless entry, but no remote, just the key. I've researched and feel perhaps its something anti theft but cannot find solution. When I turn the key to start, all the normal inside lights/indicators turn on but then nothing- everything goes out and not a hint of starter activity, even when I use a fully charged jumpstarter.
