'97 Mustang issues!

Hey, I've been having some problem occuring this last week with my Stang. First off my e-brake light is staying on all the time, even though it's not engaged. I first though one of the cable is sticking, but there doesn't seem to be any resistance at all. Could it mean something else?

Second, which happened around the same time, so maybe connected. When going from 1st to 2nd, and other gears just that is the worst. When I punch the gas, it stumbles and hesitates allthe way to like 3500 rpm (it's the feeling like you were in a high gear and you punch the gas without downshifting). But it happens when I'm upshifting.

Any thoughts?

check your brake fluid? My Ebrake light comes on when I am low

Thanks boomin! That was exactly the problem. Now I just need to solve the other issue. I'm leaning more towards a fuel filter maybe? It's hesitating at all gears now, but then it clears up and is fine, its just when you start out in the gears and are pushing on the gas harder.
