hows it giong! im new here and just need a little help to solve a tranny swap question. I own a 1997 ranger 4.0 ohv. 2 wheel drive, that has the standard transmission in it now. (manual stick shift).
I would like to put in an automatic medium duty, heavy duty. transmission, but I dont want the wiring nightmare. I want to keep all existing wiring as is with my ecm. eliminate the neutral start switch by installing a toggle switch.
a lockup torque converter that I can either switch on, or that is vacuum controlled some how.

Here's what i have so far for the swap
-jumper to replace clutch switch
-rad/ with built in tranny cooler
-additional tranny cooler.
-1987 ranger automatic floor shifter
-driveshaft from 87 2.9 a4ld same wheelbase as mine.
-8 bolt flywheel/driveplate with spacer to bolt on back torque converter. came off off 1998 explorer 4.0. ohv.
-electronic speed sensor I will pull off my manual transmission.
-brake pedal off 1998 explorer automatic.

WHAT IS THE EASIEST
AND STRONGEST AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION TO USE,
THAT WILL BOLT UP TO THIS 4.0 OHV (2WD)
THAT I CAN USE WITH MY EXISTING ECM?????
I DONT CARE ABOUT OVERDRIVE. CAN BE 3 SPEED, 4 SPEED,

Are you in london ontario?? Would you be interested in selling your old tranny?
