97 transmission problem (late shift).

I just purchased a 1997 explorer AWD (eddie bauer) I don't now past repair history. It has 187k on it. The transmission seems to shift at higher Rpms, unless I let off the gas pedal. It does not slip. I just changed the fluid and filter and it had the factory plug in the pan. There was no parts or metal in pan and no odor in the oil.

I am having the same exact problem on the same model vehicle (97 AWD V8).

Brooklyn: can you be more specific, I couldn't find anything related to the 4R70W, and the problem exists during shifts to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

I am going to clean the throttle position sensor and electrical contacts, if that doesn't work I'll replace the sensor and post my results.
