'98 Ex EB driver's door key ?

i got two keys when I bought my Ex used last month and neither one will open the drivers door lock, but work fine in the ignition. Isn't the ignition key also supposed to work in the door lock? I have a '97 TBird and the ignition key is also the door key. Both vehicles have the factory alarm.

What has probably happened is that the car has keyless entry, and the previous owner always used the remotes, and not the key... so the lock cylinder will have seized. You can try penatrating fluid in the cylinder, or if worse comes to worse, lock cylinders can be replaced individually.

It is possible that thay had it rekeyed and did not give it to you. If the lock seems free (hard to tell w/o the right key), then you may have to get the cylinder rekeyed.

I'm in the same boat as you regarding my key not working. I'm under the assumption that it froze from non use. It hasn't worked since i bought the X in 11/01, and have never had the need to use it (keyless entry).

For those who are going to say "she where you are when the battery dies," i know, but my tailgate doesn't lock so i'm never without entry.

Generally, on later-model year vehicles, only one key is needed for entry & ignition. I know that on my 92 Tempo i had 2 keys - a square key for ignition and a round one for entry/trunk.
