I made some judicious use of my Actron CP 9180 on a couple of vehicles here and there.
If I plug it into my Expedition, it doesn't ask any questions, it just works as expected. If I plug it into my Explorer, it shows me that the Explorer has an "enhanced" OBDII system and asks me to choose the vehicle type and all that jazz. I do all this and can read codes, but if I go into the data stream, it'll show some complete bull. It shows throttle position, shows something for the coolant temp (says 180 but shouldn't it be 195?), shows speed and RPM.
What throws me off is that it'll show fuel trim levels at -100.6% (all six of 'em), and it shows all four O2 sensors at 0.0 volts. Correct me if I'm wrong, but IF the engine ran like this, it wouldn't run very well.
I just put a throttle sensor on it (had two codes from it) and I found a vacuum hose unhooked under the dash. There PCV return hose wasn't sealed into the intake plenum, either; I fixed that and replaced the hose under the dash while I was cutting out the blend door. It had PO174 pending when I replaced the throttle sensor, but that got erased along with the TPS codes. PO171 was nowhere to be found.
Any reason why this thing would give my Actron scanner whacked readings and yet still purr like a kitten? I heard something about the '97's doing this, but mine is supposedly a '98.
