I have a 1998 Ford Explorer Limited Edition with 100,300 and every once and a while it will idle hard then stall out. This only happens when I press the gas quickly then let off of it very fast. I opened the hood today and was just tapping the gas and would let off of it real fast and every time I did that it would make a gasping sound like sucking in air right when I pressed it and then right when I let off it would do this. Could this possibly be a vacuum leak. And this problem doesn't happen all the time, only once and awhile. I know my check engine light is on and it says that I need to replace and oxygen sensor (Bank 2 Sensor 1). I was told that this shouldn't have anything to do with this current problem. I also think my air filter is pretty dirty, could this have something to do with it? Or a possible vacuum leak? Please any tips would be great. :us:

Hey thanks for replying. Yes I do have a check engine light on and the code is P0153 O2 Sensor Slow Response Time. Checked it out and it says Bank 2 Sensor 1 I think. Could that have anything to do with it stalling out? Thanks a lot for the help!

I bought it in January so I have no idea if it ever was replaced? Could this be the problem causing the stalling?

No I don't have one of those. I only have an OBD II Scanner. Would you start by replacing the O2 Sensor first? Or what would you do?

I just wanted to follow up on this thread. I got my O2 Sensor changed out and he also looked at it to see what else was wrong and there was build-up on the throttle cable causing the peddle to stick every once and awhile - and man did this make a HUGE difference! No more stalling out, rough idling, its running better than ever. thanks for the help...
