I recently bought a 98 Ranger 4x4 3.0L automatic with no first gear. I have to start in 2nd gear manually and then into drive. All the rest of the gears work although tough to tell if normal since truck has 31x10.50 tires and I don't have it legal to drive. I have done research and three possible causes I have found are valve body gasket leak, bad sprag or planetary. Would like to hear opinions on these or other causes. Also any way to test what specifically it is. Thanks, Jeff
