98 xlt sohc- Weird slow acceleration then it takes off while driving down road

I'll do some more searching on the forum but...

new issue. It's like 8 degrees out here so don't know if that's part of the issue.

going like 20 down the road and push down on gas and it just makes a deep sound like it wants to accelerate but barely does, then all of a sudden it kicks in and goes.
I've been suspecting a transfer case problem lately as it seems to get stuck in 4 wheel drive sometimes (it's set to AUTO)

When I got out of the car I smelled a bit of burning rubber maybe? from under the car.

Anyways, that's all the info i got for now. 150K miles on the car.

Checked the tranny fluid for it's level and colour/smell?
Trans light on/ flashing?

Brake/parking brake sticking?

When this happened to my Ex it was the Throttle Position Sensor.
