and will a rear tailgate from a 98 and up fit?

it will fit, you will need to buy totally new fog lights and everything. you will need a dressed bumper from bumpers.com. You can get one for around $300

The liftgate won't fit. The tail lights are different, as is the sheetmetal surrounding them. It's not a direct bolt on.

the lights from a 98 look like thier the same shape as the 96+

espnfreak - i think hes talking rear bumper and whatnot.

The bumper would fit I think but not the lift gate
if you did the bumper you would not have a spot for your license plate so you would be better off finding a 96 rear bumper.

99 style bumper is OK, but the rear lift gate swap will not work without heavy modification.

I'm actually doing the 99 swap on my 98 this upcoming weekend. I didn't buy a dressed bumper from bumpers.com and it was my own fault. I actually ended up spending much more than I needed to but that was due to my own ignorance. LOL I thought the bumper cover from a 99 would bolt up to a 98. Here's what I did.

1) Purchased gray 99-2000 bumper cover from bumpers.com for $90..Shipping cost $110.. GO FIGURE.
So that cost $200.
2)Called parts departments around town and bought a bumper reinforcement and reinforcement plate already attached to each other for $216.
3) Ordered the screws I needed from (dead link) awaiting the arrival (when they come in, bumper is going on).
4) Bought KC HiLites 50 Series (Don't quote me on that) from Summit for $100. Mounted it through bumper reinforcement. Fits perfect. Dont waste money if you don't have to on the fog light assembly ($278 or something outrageous).

Below is a diagram of the stuff you will need (parts numbers included):

Here is a link to a post that will help a little about fogs/driving lights:

A gentlemen with user name JDraper on this board has picture of how he mounted his lights, I couldn't find the pictures myself.

How much did it run you all together with everything? Are those part numbers Ford part numbers? Im trying to do the same thing but i want the one with the chrome corners where the fog lights are. I may have to buy one direct from Ford. Email me at SVTCobraLTD@juno.com so we can talk or IM me at Quick93CobraSVT. Thanks.
