Hey guys, done a few searches and found some information on diagnosing the 4wheel drive not working and they all talk about lights working or not or even flashing. Well first off, I don't see any lights in the dash or anywhere that say 4 wheel drive. May be burnt out or just may not be lighting up.
That said, my '99 only has 2wheel High. The turn style knob reads auto4wd 4wd hi and 4wdlo. I can do a brake stand with just the rear wheels spinning. I haven't jacked up the truck because I just found out that the shift motor is just for the range and not locking 4 wheel drive. I did buy a new shift motor and plugged it in, not installed it, but couldn't get that to work so I'm thinking and hoping that it's a wiring or module issue and not the transfer case. I did check the maxi fuse under the hood and it's good and has good power going in and out of it. I found the sticky thread about diagnosing the 44-05 transfer case but it starts out if the lights are working or flashing and I don't. Please if someone could tell me where these lights should be and why mine aren't working along with the 4 wheel drive.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

find the brown wire underneather were it enters the transfer case or at least under the driver seat. Turn knob on dash to 4Hi and see if you have power on the brown wire. If not, its the GEM or control module. If you do, its inside the transfer case. If no lights illuminate in the dash my bet is its a control module or the switch itself.

did you replace the switch? the 4wd drive lights on the dash dont even come on when you first start the truck?
