This truck is new to me and I don't know enough about it yet ...

Some of the most important things I need to know are...

1- do all 99 XLTs have ABS brakes? I don't think mine does (and I thought it did when I bought it )... there is no ABS light that illuminates on start up as shown in the owners manual.

edit; I called the guy I bought it from and he said ALL FORDS have ABS after 1992 so this does as well...I guess I have a problem with the light or the system...(sheee - ip!)..he didn't know about the LSD

2- do I have a limited slip diff (LSD)?, was that standard? How can I tell if it works if I have one?

:dunno:

Welcome to this site, i own a 99 XLT also, so i could help answer some of your questions, just PM me.

yes all 99 XLT have ABS, your light could be out, its not that tough to change, just alot of time (taking apart 3 different things just to get to it.)

i think you can look on your sticker on the side of your drive door, it should have a few numbers about the axel code, this will tell you your gear's and (im pretty sure) if its LSD or not.
