99 Mountaineer tach problem

OK, I have a 99 Mountaineer with a tach problem...it works intermittently at best. Have replaced the tach with one from another cluster, but that didn't do the trick...any idea what the fix is? All other gauges, including the speedo, work fine...

I also have this problem all the guages work perfect but the tach works intermittently whenever it pleases. I have looked at the wiring and I am puzzled as well.
