I've read about the blend door and all the other posts. I've run the a/c and I have cold temp at the reciever, but when I feel under the glove box its hot! The only thing I can think of is the "coolant bipass is stuck open and allow hot water thru. I've removed the glove box and can see a door opening and closing, before it close when I turn on the A/c I can see the squirrel cage turn. Any advice would help, I'm taking my family vacation in Aug. Only 1 this year because of,,,,, well you know !!! GAS!!:D

did that, I think it's the "BLEND DOOR""

:(

even if the blend door is stuck to heat, it should be cool air out of the vents because the heater core will be cooled off by the cold air. That is, as long as the hot coolant is shut off from the core as designed. Are you on Max a/c? Is air coming out the dash vents? You may need to heed Brooklyn's advice and go after your vacuum lines if not.

98 A/C Blend door

Yes, when in MAX A/C, there is cold air because the hot water control vale is shut. When I run the heater the vent (vacumm) switch oens the appropriate vents. What I notice is there is no movement when the tempature selector is adjusted. it is electric right?? Thanks for your response any help would be greatly appreciated. Spin

Another place to check is to make sure there is power going into the A/C compressor.

Yes , I get cooling in Max A/C.

This definitely sounds like the blend door.

You can't easily see the blend door after removing the glove box; the door you're seeing is probably the recirculate/outside air door. The blend door is located inside the plenum toward the left side of the glove box opening.

The two common issues people have with the blend door is the actuator stops working, or the plastic shaft of the door has broken.

Thanks for the info, how easy is it to access the door motor?? Is it mounted on top?? My X is a 98. Is there a way to test the switch or motor before cutting a hole in the plenum?? Thanks again. Spin

Do you have manual or EATC climate control? If the latter, there is a self test you can run. I don't have the key sequence, but it's been mentioned here several times. I use my scan tool. Anyway, it will test the blend door actuator for you and give you a code if it's not working properly.

As to replacing the motor, well, the first line of the factory manual says "remove the instrument panel"...so you know it's not going to be fun. However, there are a LOT of folks here who have written threads on how they removed theirs through the glove box opening.

Thx for the reply
No i have the three knob controller fan, temp, direction. 98 limited

Wow. No ATC on a Limited?? I didn't know that was possible to get that way.
