I have a 96 Exp , and up to now the AC worked great, I replaced everything but the condenser thingy on the firewall. Now, if I accelerate or hit a 1% upgrade the baffles or blend door will not hold position. The fan is on but no air out of the vents. As soon as I let of the gas airflow resumes. I dont know if this is vaccuum controled or not but this is how it is acting. Are there vaccuum assist cannisters or pots under the dash to help maintain vaccuum under hard accelleration if it is a vaccuum controled problem or does something else control airflow???

Sure sounds like an issue with the vacuum reservoir. Try a search on this site and see what you find.

Mine did something similar when the brake booster was losing vacuum. On mine the air would switch to defrost vents only regardless of setting when under load. After booster was replaced no more issues (and no more spongy brakes lol!!)

I have the same problem. Very much vacum related.
I hate chasing vacum lines :(

Thanks guys it was the vacuum line.
I was getting 20" at inlet and outlet of the vacuum booster canister, but only 7" at the connection just inside the firewall to the right of the heater box. With only 7" at idle it would drop to 0 with any kind of acceleration. Replaced about 18" of line and it works like a charm, for now. I may need to find the complete A/C vacuum harness with firewall seal,if it is still available, or maybe i will just use a tube of silicon seal.
