Hi all,
This is new to me, please let me know if I'm not making sense.

A few weeks ago my A/C stopped working, I could smell a burnt rubber smell and hear some noise coming from the unit. I was busy so I didn't try to fix it just yet.
Then just the other day I was using the heater and when I pulled in at home smoke was pouring out from where the belt goes around the compressor, way down at the bottom of the engine, passenger side. Upon stopping the engine the belt actually melted through and fell off the car. I assume the compressor got stuck and heated up the belt. For a moment I almost thought I was going to have a fire:fire:

So, I guess I have to replace my compressor, here's what I've gathered so far:
1. Have a shop remove the freon.
2. Remove compressor
3. Remove accumulator
4. Remove orifice tube (is there one?)
5. blow compressed air through system with a solvent.
6. Install new parts (compressor, accumulator, orifice tube if applicable)
7. Have a shop draw vacuum and the recharge the system.

Questions:
Is there a how-to on how to do this on my car? I found a lot of stuff on youtube but that is all on a 1996 explorer, mine is '02. I have never done A/C work on a car before.

If I don't do it all, how much can I expect to pay for the removal and recharging of the system?
Can I do it all myself if I invest in the tools? Is it worth it?
where the heck is the orifice tube if I have one?

What did I miss?

Thanks so much,
Dan
