Ford Explorer XLT - 2012
Recently I noticed that the A/C fan (not in Auto) while in low speed (meaning 1 or 2 speed steps) was (is) acting erratically - meaning going from extremely slow to extremely high.

Took the EXP for service 1st time and they could not find any condition.

Problem persisted and one day while driving near the dealer and went in and showed the condition to one of the service reps. and made an appointment for a second visit to include the KeyLess entry system that is working occasionally.

What happened @ the shop? Well, they were able to replicate the fan issue and could not obtain an error reading or log from the Ford IDS system. After consultation with the engineers it seems that they need to replace the RADIO.

Both parts are on order (radio arrived) but the KeyLess entry system is still on backorder. I am waiting the KeyLess entry system pad to arrive to take it to the shop.

Question: Why the radio for an A/C fan issue?:feedback:

I am experiencing a similar issue. 2013 Explorer Limited. When AC is in Auto, the fan goes from a high speed to a low speed every 7-10 seconds. You have to set temp to 66 to get it comfortable. First trip to dealer answer was that's the way it works. Second trip vehicle there four days, dealer communicated with Ford engineers. Replace main module. Same problem continues. Air will turn itself on automatically, now. Turn off climate control when AC not on and turn climate control back on, AC turns on. Dealer wants vehicle back for a week, not sure what they are going to do and if can't fix it, see if they can get a engineer to dealership. Not happy here at all.

BobbyMarks what radio system do you have (MFT/Base Sync)? Also there was a TSB on the police explorer for erratic HVAC operation. It had to do with a plug under the driver seat getting wet and having moisture cause a bad connection. Any chance either of you gotten the floor wet at all? I know its not winter but this issues reared up mainly during the winter months (tracking snow in and out of the vehicle) or during very rainy times.

No on the wet floor. This started this spring/summer. Have floor Weather Tech floor mats. I told the dealer of the TSB and they stated it only applied to the Interceptors.

I just checked over the service manual for the 2014 (that's all I have access to) and the radio which is the ACM (audio control module, that's what the houses the CD Player, Radio Receiver and Sirius) is not listed or described in the HVAC system operator or diagnosis. The term radio could have multiple meaning though as there are several modules that make up the radio system. I would get specifics as to what the technical name of the module is.

Agree with regards to which module they are referring to. Tomorrow I will ask what is the part number for that "RADIO". It is very odd!!

With regards to

1) the radio question, is not he base radio model, my EXP is XLT with MFT/Navigation, beleive is called Premium Audio System w/8 speakers. (Not Sony HD)

2) moisture - none whatsoever.

Ask them if it's the FCIM. That would make much more sense. That's the front control interface module and that's what the service manual recommends to change.

How many miles are on your Explorer, BobbyMarks? I'll check out some ways to help.

Thanks for responding, BobbyMarks! I want to get your regional customer service manager involved. To make that happen, send me a PM with your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and servicing dealership. I'll move this up the chain. :)

Both replacement parts arrived.

1) Radio face replaced - meaning where all the buttons, knobs, lights and touch buttons are.

2) Door B-pillar keyboard actuator replaced.

3) 14S06 Recall performed.

So far no issues.
