Hi guys,
I have a clicking compressor. The clutch kicks in every 10 seconds, then disconnects. The system pressure is about 50psi. I am wondering if the pressure is maybe too low?? The voltage ( ~ 14V) stays constantly at the connector
I can´t find anything where the right pressure should be.

Thanks a lot for any ideas

hey out of curiosity, does your A/C stay cold? my clutch kicks on and off every 5-10 seconds, i recharged the system, and still my A/C remains HOT!!! maybe its time to replace the clutch or compressor? hope you figure it out

edit: whoa 50psi? if i recall normal pressure is like 25 or something. ill go out and check and let ya know, i have one of those recharge bottles that has a pressure gauge.

0-25 PSI = Low
25-45 PSI = Normal
45-65 PSI = Alert!
65 + PSI = WARNING!!!

as taken from the gauge on my A/C refill bottle

Welcome to the site..When you measured your level, how did you measure it? Was it with a set of manifold guages or one of those low pressure gauges that are attached to a refill kit? If your using the second option, I would suggest going to harbor freight or somewhere and find yourself a set of manifold guages for R134.. You may have an issue with low pressure since your cycling every 10 seconds or you could even be overcharged or have a dirty orifice valve. Without a true reading on the system, its really hard to diagnose.. Typically the low pressure should be around 40 or below and the high should be atleast 120 psi if not higher with the AC on high/max cool.. Don't forget that the pressures are also temperature sensitive.. The hotter it is, the higher your pressures will read.

Definately go with the manifold guages and post up the numbers.. From there we could help you determine if you simply need 30 ounces of R134a or less, etc.

The system will cycle... a fast cycle at temps above 60 degrees usually means your charge is low... try adding a can of refrigerant. AND... forget the stupid little gauge set that you can buy. THEY are worthless and worse, misleading. Instead put a thermometer in the vent and watch the vent temps... once they hit a low and start back up...STOP adding refrigerant.
