A/C only cold on Max A/C

The A/C on my 97 Explorer XLT 2wd V8 is only cold when the dial is turned to "Max AC". What's the fix for this? Is this the sign of something HORRIBLE to come?

Anyone else ever deal with this?

When on Max, vacuum is directed to the heater control valve shutting off coolant flow to the heater core. So, it sounds like your blend door is stuck. I'll try and find a pic.

Thanks Sparky..this is great stuff, but may be I'm in over my head.

But, how do you get it "unstuck"?

The blend door actuator determines the mix of evaporator (cold air) and heater core (hot air). The actuator motor will stop working or the blend door will actually break.

Do you have Auto temp control or manual?

I followed the instructions with this link and it WORKED!! It took me a less than one hour and I am NOT a mechanic. Fingers crossed!!

Anyone have a new link for this problem? I have the same haooening in my 97 but pink doesn’t work anymore
