Today I removed the superlift 4" lift from the frame and I have a couple of questions before I reinstall it on my truck.

The shocks need replaced so what's a good shock when installing a lift?

From lots of reading on here I have the understanding that there are old versions which can puncture your dif and then a new version. How do I tell which version I have and if I have the old one, what do I need to grind off?

Does anyone have any words of wisdom before tackling this project?

Thanks for the help.

When you pulled the lift off the donor vehicle, did you see any holes/hits on the diff itself?

I've never seen the hole caused by the superlift kit in person but I've seen (and trail repaired) diffs that got a hole punch in from other kits..

Either way, what I would so is install the lift/drop bracket on both sides but don't install the springs yet. Now lift the beam for the drivers tire up as far as it will go and see if it will hit anything before you hit the bump stops.

If so you should extend the bump stops AND maybe even grind a little off the bracket. From the ones I've seen it was the shape of the bracket above the diff that was bad and if you didn't extend the bump stops enough the diff could come up and get hit by the bracket.. At that point it's trail fix it with JBWeld (did that at truckhaven a few years ago to someone else's rig) or replace the diff (Dime a dozen in the yard)..

Edit: I just found this thread (http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=130986) and from that pic it looks like the shape of the bottom of the superlift Axle pivot bracket needs to be ground down some when the 4" hole is used.

Thank you for the info.

There were no marks on the top of the diff and looking at pictures and reading those posts I think I am ok at least I know where grind now if needed.

I'll also make sure the bump stops are long enough.

Hoping to start installing it next weekend maybe. Need to get a new set of shocks for it first.

I like my Bilstein 5100 series lift shocks. They really work well. Firm but not too much and they work very well in suppressing sway. Rancho's are popular too.
