So, I was planning on putting in a K&N intake this weekend with my friend, I was going to buy mine for the X and he was going to buy his for his dakota. So, today I take out 60 from the bank giving me a total of about 120 (had 60 in my wallet). Looking on-line at Advance Auto Parts I find this:
K&N 57-2527 $315.99

THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN DOLLARS!!!? I thought it was going to be like about 60 to 80 (90max). Just wondering how much you guys paid for yours, or you know somewhere to get one for cheap. Thanks:D

Get one from KKM www.kustomz.com
Basically the same kit, but not officially smog certified.

The drop-in filter is around $40.00.

For $315, you must have been looking at a complete kit with tubes and everything. If you are looking the whole thing, IMO, eBay is your best bet. If you are looking to just put a drop-in filter in, you should only be looking at $35-$50. If you are looking to put a conical filter in with mounting bracket, a KKM will run you about $90 while a K&N will run you about $150. Unless you have emmision inspections which require a "CARB" certified intake, K&N is a waste of money compared to KKM.

Yeah I got the Ohio E-check so KKM is deffinatly out, got to have the certification.

Nah, just get a K&N sticker to put on it. They won't know the difference.

I got my K&N FIPK on eBay for $120.

If you ever need any bolt on part just go to Dead Link Removed . You can click on the manufacturer search at the middle of the screen on the left and type in that part number and enter K&N and you are golden. Jeg's and Summit have great prices and free shipping.

But they dont sell anything for the 5.0.

The cheapest that I've found the K&N Gen II kit was for $228 which was at truckperformance.com. I went to K&N's website, and their Gen II kit only gave me a max of 6 hp according to their dyno runs (SOHC), and that was above 5 grand. At 3 grand, there was barely any difference. Just get the KKM and put a K&N sticker on it like Alec said. I saw one post where a guy has a KKM in PA and has never failed emissions. Or, for the 5.0 get the Mac intake which comes with a heatshield and chrome intake tube (more for looks). Just my 0.02

Ok I know this is kind of a stab in the dark here, but does anybody know if the KKM true rev intake is legal here in Missouri (St. Louis to be specific) or where I can find out online.

The KKM is not officially emissions legal. But the KN is. So all you do is get a KN sticker and put it on your KKM.
