Hi Everyone,
I am having some water leakage issues in my 1999 Explorer, and the water is ending up on the drivers side floor board. I have tracked the problem down to the boot that the wire harness for the power windows, etc passes through. The boot is torn in the area where it seals against the A pillar, and it allows water into the body and consequently on the floor. I have a few questions.....

1. Does anyone have a part # for the boot? I was at my local Ford dealer today, and the parts guy had no luck locating the boot. He had no clue where to look in his computer system. He said the Ford parts system is terrible for older vehicles.

2. When I do find a new boot, how would I go about replacing the boot short of cutting the brand new boot?

Thanks,
Zack

I doubt you're going to find a brand new boot anywhere. Maybe a used one at the salvage yard. Replacing the boot would be a major PITA unless you can find a junction point where the wires can be disconnected. Probably easier to change the entire harness with barrel top connector. Remove the driver's side kick panel and follow the wires back under the dash to see if there's a junction point where the harness can be unplugged.

Any chance you can seal the torn boot with maybe black RTV?

It "WILL" be a major PITA. You can disconnect every thing in the door and run the wire out of the protective boot, that is if you find another good boot at a pick in pull. You can fix your boot, if the crack isn't too big, with a bike tire repair patch. I am not sure how long it will hold, so clean it good.
