A4LD 2.8 and 4.0 casing strength

Would the casing strength of a 4.0L be the same as 2.8L casing. I know the guts are different but what about the casings?

The gauge of the cast aluminum should be the same thickness.

Case casting itself is identical. The rear bushing is a different size, and the "lighter duty" case did not have a nipple for the overflow piping.... just a vent. The case is not a limiting factor strength wise.

One thing I did notice on the outside is that the 4.0l one has ribs on the outside whereas the 2.8l one was without.
