I have a 92 XLT that had the A4LD replaced 54k miles ago. A couple of weeks ago, we deiced to drive out to Colorado from California to visit friends and look for a job.
In preparation, I changed the tranny filter and fluid at recommendation of the shop who rebuilt it (Not AAMCO). I do not know if it had been changed before.
During the drive, with the back fully loaded with clothes, diapers, etc for 2 adults and 2 kids everything ran fine when on flat/semi-flat roads; Shifted smoothly, some of the noise was even gone. But, while driving at 75, and going up and down larger hills/mountians, it started to slip, just before it downshifted out of OD. when in 4th it ran fine. I know it should be in 4th for large climbs, but it should downshift before slipping.
The rpms would start varying from 2500 to 3000, almost like someone was pushing the clutch in on a manual.
Now that I am in Colorado, and can look at it before the drive back, What should I do? The ATF was not burnt, but it was dirty. I think the OD bands need to be adjusted.
Any input is welcome!
Thanks
