If you've seen any other threads by me you know I've been considering rebuilding my A4LD. It went bad last fall and I put a used one in the truck until I got this one done.
Today I got into it and I'm not sure what I have. It looks like somebody took the original case and put some older guts in it. The tag on the tranny has 89GT CAA and under that , 09 C 09. My truck is an 89 Ranger 4wd, so that looks to be correct.
When I got it apart and saw what I had inside,,,,every planatary was 3 gear and the rear planatary was the older aluminum type. It also appears some of the spacing washers aren't there. There was no damage to anything, no shavings or little pieces anywhere,I haven't got into the little springs yet though. It just flat out quit working, no nothing.
I'm wondering whether to rebuild this thing or get another with at least the 4 gear planataries? I want to rebuild a tranny myself because every A4LD around here leaks like a sieve and most barely make it past the 1 yr. warrenty. I'm thinking of getting a newer tranny and putting those guts in my case. Something like Glacier and Brain did but not quite as far. I only do normal driving and just want something I can trust. I see an A4LD for a 4.0, complete except for pump from Tranz Parts in FL. for $141.
I'm open for suggestions.
