My '91 just got a new transmission about 2 years ago, after the first one lasted about 160,000 miles... and recently I have been noticing some very high RPM's once in awhile around 45-50 MPH, reaching near 4000, and you can hear the engine obviously is in strain.
I am trying to take immediate action, I know the the transmission hasn't been serviced (or looked at) for awhile (was my mom's, she fails to make sure these things are taken care of), it also hasnt had a tune-up for awhile either (dont know if that would help the transmission at all ?).... so I figure it is only logical to start there, but is there anything else I can do to avoid the cost of ANOTHER transmission?
