My 2001 XLT V-6 4.0 SOHC with 172,000 miles was occasionally doing ABS breaking on dry pavement the past couple months. I know several recent posts were discussing this type of problem, so I followed them closely and wanted to share my experience.

My local repair shop took the rig in and noticed that the left front sensor was somehow 'reading differently' ..... maybe they said 'slower' ? ......... so they replaced the left front wheel hub/bearing. Its only been a couple days, but it has not reoccurred since. (The right front wheel hub/bearing had been replaced about 40K miles ago.)

Thanks everyone for all your contributions to this forum - its really helped me learn about my Explorer and keep it on the road. I'm hoping to reach 200,000 miles.

Yeah I had a bad wheel bearing do the same to me about a year ago. Now I'm having ABS issues again. Replaced all 3 ABS sensors and both wheels bearings and I still get the ABS pump kicking on backing out of my driveway and going down my road in the morning. I have to get a laptop and run Forscan to see if I can figure out what's going on.
