I own a 2004 Limited Explorer, 4WD, V8. My truck only has 42,x.. miles on it and is NOT by any means driven hard or in rough territory.

What could the problem be? Bad sensor? If so, where? Easy/Cheap to fix on my own?

Help. Thanks

I just had this problem a couple weeks ago and it was a bad sensor. I decided against paying a $400 bill and am going to wait a bit until the assembly needs some other repair as well (maybe a year away). I don't know how easy/cheap to fix on your own though. I think most of the cost of the repair is in the labor so if you're able give it a go.

I have had the same problem. It turned out to be a disconnected wire from the wheel hub assembly to the system. Both front hubs have separate plugs that connect to the main harness above the tire well in the engine compartment. Once I plugged the loose one back in, the 4X4 light stopped blinking. I suspect that once the computer resets, the ABS light will go oof as well, although it is on now with zero miles driven.
If you notice a rhythmic low noise or rumble from the fornt, it can be a a hub assembly going bad. I had to replace both of mine at about 60,000 miles. If the hub is bad, it may not be engaging properly. Perhaps this can cause the blinking light.
I am a backyard mechanic. I have worked on my cars for 38 years. I am glad to share experiences, but I am not a professional mechanic by a long shot.
Good luck.

Was there any solution to this issue? I just began having the same problem.

Thanks

The sensor wire was loose. I cannot remember if I used an OBDII device to reset or if it did it on its own after the computer recycled. It is fine now.

Been there and done it. Best thing is to get the codes read it will tell what sensor is the problem or you can throw money at it. . . Otherwise most common failures in order are Master Cyl Switch $20, Rear ABS sensor $50, front sensor's (like if you drop the caliper while changing your brakes and the wire catches it - dont ask) $70. Another issue has been the wheel bearings if they get really bad then the sensor dosn't see the tone ring and triggers it. To fix mine and after throwing $400 at the wheel bearings i bought a software code reader and replaced the $20 part.

[Thank u bob.
I'm having it checked tomorrow. Glad to hear it may not be that bad money wise.

I also had this same problem . I did nothing but adjust the steering play in the gear
box . When I started the Ex There was the ABS light . I checked everything .
This dont effect nothing . You just dont have ABS brakes.
While driving it one day I had to jam the brakes on and guess what ?????????
The light went out . Yes I have ABS brakes now. What a easy fix . Try this .
Lock your brakes up and see if it goes out .
