Accelerating Problems

Alright, well I was talking to my uncle and it got me thinking. Here are the symptoms, when i push on the accelerator about 1/6 of the way, it kind of shudders a little bit, when i go down a little more, i feel as if i dont have any power, then when i go about 3/4- all the way down I have no power. I have talked to a shop and they believe its the MAF, he thinks it may be a vaccum line, fuel pump, something of the sort..I have no idea what to do and my explorer is just sitting there wanting to be driven so i need a solution...Thanks

EDIT- when the MAF is plugged in it does this, when its not it throws a code and runs decent besides the low rpms and wanting to die around 500rpm..
