Just speculating, but if you just had the intake off, check all the vacuum lines closely.

i have looked at all vacuum lines, wireing, and reset the computer several times. can it be any thing els

so when you press on the gas all it does is raise the rpms and all of sudden it catches then accelerates. Sounds like that tranny, if it is might want to check your fluid maybe low. POS a4ld! Thats how mine acted the first time it went out. Hopefully somebody else has something you can check. -TJ

thanks for the ideas. but it is like a strugaling rev like if your tier is agenst a curb but it dose this on flat ground. i did just notice that the check engin light was out so i put a new one in now i dont know how to read the code its giveing me. ive heard of people using a paper clip in other cars will it work on the x?

ok so i got a code reader but cant get it to work. can any one explan it to me? thanks.

i think either advance or autozone will read your codes for you. -TJ

i tryed auto zone but all they had was for an obd2 so i bught one. so i got it to work and it showing me 111 that is ok right then 10,cyl6 20,214,514. dont know what they mean. any one help. thanks.

thanks for the help i will try.

You need a code reader for OBD-I. They are very easy to use, even I can do it :)

Once you figure out the code it's throwing, post back here.

P.S. make sure your TPS and throttle body butterfly are calibrated correctly.

ok i reset the comp and now this is the only code i get 214 cylinder id circuit failure. i have no clue what that means.

Engine missing, perhaps? I don't have my book here so I can't relate to code 214. Which cyl? When's the last time you changed the plugs and wires? Make sure the wires have not come loose at the coil pack.

plugs and wires are brand new less than 200 miles on them. changed them to smog. the code 214 is cyl id circuit failure. i just dont know what that is

Yes, that's right. Code 214 = Cylinder Identification Circuit failure. Has anyone else had experience with that code? That is a tough one for me. But here's some advice, things that I would do:

I would inspect the spark plug wires and make sure they are not frayed, or have exposed wire and are grounding out. You might even replace them if it has been a while.

Also look at the coil pack, and make sure the wires are not hooked up in the wrong firing order.

ok looked at every thing fiering order is right. can it be the coil peck itself has gon bad? is that comem after 130k?

How long has it been since you changed the spark plug wires? If they have over 80,000 on them I'd say it's time to replace them...and for $40 that's a lot easier than replacing a coil pack.

Now, the coil pack...it could be worn out at 130,000 miles, but in my experience it's not that common for it to go bad. Personally, I would replace the plug wires (and plugs too while I was at it). I'd put Motorcraft plugs in there, gapped to .054" and also get some new wires. That's cheaper and easier than messing with the coil pack. If you still have the problem after doing that, then move on to the coil pack.

the plugs and wires are brand new less than 200 miles. is the coil pack a dealer only part?
