I have an '06 Ford Explorer with the 4.0 V6. I just changed the leaking radiator and now I'm wondering how to check/add the transmission fluid that leaked out. When I disconnected the transmission lines from the radiator, a small amount of fluid leaked. Is there a way for me to add fluid myself or do I have to take it somewhere? Also, how do I verify what transmission I have?

Thanks,
Brandon

I just loosened the set screw in the drain plug on the transmission pan and fluid came out, so I'm assuming it's good. Of course, the truck was up to operating temperature, level, and running.

Those trannies are supposed to be sealed units and need a special adapter to fill them..

yea i second that. you cant fill them, dealer of somewhere special has to do it.

I lost some tranny fluid while changing my radiator but its still running fine...if i have to change the radiator again ill prolly have to get m tranny fluid refilled.

It can be done you just need the proper tools. You just need a oil suction gun and this adapter.

I'm thinking that if you replace the radiator, measure approximately how much trans fluid comes out of the radiator and then pour new trans fluid into the new radiator (trans cooler hole). Then connect it up and it should be good.
