Ok I have a 2004 Ford Explorer v8. I had a look in the service book and saw that it had not been changed transmission fluid for about 40000 mils only check every 8000 mils. Is it not time to replace? and what fluid do you advice to use. Or is it just motorcraft Mercon v? And when is the time to replace timingchain??

Regards: here from Iceland

It's best to replace the fluid between 15k & 30K miles. This depends upon certain factors such as the road conditions, temperature, towing, off roading, etc. Use Mercon V fluid. As for the timing chain, tensioner, and guide, probably between 100K & 150K miles.
