I just installed a kkm for my 93 Sport and I am now having a slight hesitation at hard takeoffs. Is this normal, and will it eventually go away? However it does sound really tough! Any help would be appreciated

did you pull off the battery cable and let it sit off for at least a half hour?... if so from what i have read on the board the computer has to recalculate the fuel to air ratio so give it a week or so and see if it gets better.. i have it and im very happy i put it in!!!

PS welcome to the board.... there alot of info on here just search around you'd be suprised

Where in Alaska are you from?

peace

Mike

Make sure when you installed the bracket that comes with the KKM that there are no vacuum leaks where the bracket meets the MAF. No air should be able to seep through around there.

I just got my KKM. Should I remove the stock filter first or does it matter? The directions says that to use a flathead screwdriver to pry it(between the airbox and the base. Is it tough to get that airbox out fom a late model explorer? I don't want to break anything. Is there a better why instead of prying the thing?

you could get a haynes manual and read how to remove your air box assembly. Mine is a '93 and it says to "pry" the air box from the rubber grommetts. Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen but it pops right out....at least on mine :)

Thanks ChuckyD, Left it disconnected all night and MAN! what a difference that thing makes. I highly recomend it to any Explorer owner. I love the sound too!

Mike 92,
I am in Eagle River just N. E. of Anchorage. I'm not from Alaska, I am just living here. Raised in N. Georgia. Alaska Is heaven to the outdoorsman!!

some times that may be from some hot air being sucked in to the motor but it clears up.

i had a hard bogging problem, kinda of hesitating when i gased it really hard. but i put in a dryer pipe, so it could bring fresh air into where the kkm is, and it never does the bogging thing when im in drive now. i think it just does it b/c of hot air being sucked in.

Hey boatsrcool,

Can you elaborate a little more? Dryer pipe? Where/how did you run it?

yeah sorry about that. Its just like that white plastic 4 inch tubing, with spiral metal in it.

Its pretty ghetto. first off i painted it black. Then I ran the tube sort of behind the grill, so you cant see it. Then I ran it down and around up under the fender well, and just put a bolt in to hold it under the kkm. Its not direct cold air injection, but it sure helps cooler air get near the kkm I think.

I'm Lost

OK what is the KKM? What does it do? How does it hook up? Will it fit my 1995 4.0L Ranger? And what is the cost for one of these things?

The KKM is the brand name (Kurts Kustom Motorsports) I think?? It is an air injection replacement system as stock systems restrict air flow which reduces performance.

The KKM can be bought for a hundred bucks and it will fit your ranger. The KKM was the best mod I have done yet Dead Link Removed

The seat of the pants growl, acceleration, improvement in my manual shifting...what can I say but get one!!!
