Ok here is the deal. I just replaced my stock air intake with the Kurtz Kustomz Motorsports "True-Rev" kit. I fired up the engine and everything sounds fine. Now, when I "floor" the gas I get a low rumbling from the engine and a farly swift take off (not much noticable from stock) But after the tranmission shifts to higher gears it seems as though its shifting two low.. The engine get even lower rumbling and takes a while to get upto speed. What gives? It seems as though the engine is shifting too low now?? What can I do?? This is the only mod I have to my explorer... Would a superchip or cat back exhaust fix this???

Thanks,

did you reset your computer buy diss connecting the battery for 15min? This is very important.

Well... I did try the battery for 15mins (more like 20) and it changed nothing... I also did some 0-60 clocking and believe it or not with the STOCK filter ON I was 1 sec faster!! I testing this on four runs every time around a second faster with stock... What gives??? Anyone???

I noticed the same thing when I made some changes to my vehicle. I added a Borla cat-back exhaust and the KKM induction kit. I also disconnected the negative battery terminal when installing the KKM. I don't think I have gotten any slower, if anything, I've gotten a little faster. Hard to say for sure though cause I haven't really done any testing. I noticed that my transmission shifts sooner now as well, just like you are describing. I don't really have a lack of power though when it does this, maybe cause I have the Borla. I actually like it a little better this way. Keeps the RPM's down lower and doesn't shift back and forth between overdrive and 4th as much. I think it is shifting sooner cause it has enough power now to push the gears at a lower RPM. (?)

Hey Kevin:
I put the kkm true rev on 2 days before I put on the superchip,I didn't notice any earlier shifting, the truck shifted too early before I put on the kkm,(never liked that, going up a grade was a strain on the train Dead Link Removed ), but with the superchip, much better, more torque, slightly higher shifting, power. Dead Link Removed
now if someone would come out with some damn headers for my '99 sohc Dead Link Removed

When you disconnect and reconnect the battery cable, the computer goes into learning mode. It actually goes back to the point of a set program. It will relearn the mods that you made along with your driving pattern but this is not instantaneous...in other words, it takes a couple of hundred miles of driving for the program to actually change.

If you do not disconnect the battery and just let it learn the change, it will eventually but it will be a very gradual event. It could take several tanks of fuel before it has completely modified its program.

Once I thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken.

Is it true that you need to let the engine idle for a set time before driving it?

yes, you should let the truck idle with all accessories off for about 10 minutes.

Great! Thanks for the info. I just finished putting mine in and I wanted to be sure to do everything right.

One more thing I noticed:

In the online instructions it shows two clamp bars, but the package I received had only one. The packing list showed only one as well. Which is fine, but the intake seems a little loose from side to side. So do I need to get another strap and latch it down some more?

Just play it by ear I guess ;)

kk thanks for the quick reply m8!
